About Me

Michael E. Kirst currently works for EuroAtlantic Partners in Brussels, Belgium. However, his work experience spans far beyond the EU capital.

Before EuroAtlantic Partners, Kirst was the Vice President of Westinghouse Electric Company. Here, he formulated and coordinated growth strategies for countries throughout Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. These growth initiatives and strategies were oriented toward the fast-evolving business environments in these countries and resulted in substantial new business and market expansion, particularly in Central and Eastern Europe. He also led all European Union and national government relations within the EMEA region.

Former positions with Westinghouse Electric include serving as the Vice President for Central and Eastern Europe from 2008 to 2010 and serving as the Director of Central and Eastern European Fuel Business in Vasteras, Sweden, from 2005 to 2008 in which he negotiated a landmark fuel agreement with Ukraine, still the largest energy diversification contract in Ukraine’s history.

Michael E. Kirst served as Director of International and Government Affairs at Westinghouse Electric Company in Washington, DC, from 1996 to 2005. Earlier in his career, he served as Director of the Economic Committee of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly in Brussels, Belgium, representing the Atlantic Alliance and advising parliamentary members of NATO nations and the then aspiring newly independent members of Central and Eastern Europe on economic reform programs.

Kirst began his career in international relations, energy, and more as a Legislative Aide for Congressman Leon E. Panetta, in Washington, DC. He was responsible for issues surrounding banking, budget, energy, and commerce committees.

Michael E. Kirst has deep experience in energy, politics, economics, and trade which has defined a career of increasing success and influence with key decision-makers.

Kirst graduated from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, in 1987. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and his specialization was in international relations and diplomacy.

Michael E. Kirst currently serves on the board of directors for the US-Ukraine Business Council and as its Treasurer. He has been a member of this organization since 2005. In 2015, he received the Lifetime Achievement Award for Advancing Energy Independence of Ukraine.

Kirst served as the president of the Nuclear Club of Brussels (NULUC) in 2019. In this position, he represented public affairs offices of international and European nuclear-related companies to EU institutions. From 2012 to 2019, Kirst served as a member of FORATOM, representing European-based nuclear vendors and utilities. He drafted and analyzed key position papers relating to European Union energy policies.

Michael E. Kirst has been recognized numerous times for his achievements in energy, international affairs, and more. The following are a few of his most iconic achievements.

Kirst engaged in multi-billion market objectives in government procurement, fuel sales, and new power plant construction.

Kirst led all EU and national government relations in the EMEA region.

He facilitated second supplier entry points in traditionally monopolized markets, including Bulgaria, Finland, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic.

Kirst holds strong working relationships with many government institutions in the U.S., EU, and beyond.

He was the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award for Advancing Energy Independence of Ukraine in 2015

Michael Kirst has dedicated his career to the field of energy and environment, and his work is more important now than ever. He continues working with governments and commercial entities in drafting and deploying policies and eventually commercial agreements to sustain energy and environmental progress.
